Wheelchair accessible tables are designed to be spacious enough for an individual in a wheelchair to sit and move comfortably. They comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines and regulations. Such guidelines include tabletop heights of 28 to 34 inches and a minimum of 27 inches of vertical clearance to ensure knee clearance. The requirements also include clear floor space and aisles between tables to ensure accessibility. The tables typically utilize a T-style base and four-corner legs to ensure the wheelchair can be close to the table without hitting the legs. Wheelchair accessible cafeteria tables are an important component in incorporating inclusion in schools. This is the act of making environments and opportunities accessible to all. Wheelchair accessible tables ensure a comfortable and safe space in the cafeteria for all to sit and enjoy their lunches.
Wheelchair Accessible Cafeteria Tables
We carry a wide selection of different wheelchair accessible tables for you to choose from, including:
- Foldable- Include a folding mechanism that allows the tabletop to fold in half for storage and cleaning purposes. Made from high-pressure laminate tabletops and a steel base.
- Variety of Shapes- Available in square, rectangular, octagonal, hexagonal, and circular shapes.
- Open Spaced- A table with built-in stools or benches that includes an open space on one side specifically for a wheelchair.
- On-Wheels- Large wheels or casters with a heavy-duty locking system to keep the tables steady when in use. Help tables fold up and be moved with ease.
Important Considerations when Choosing ADA Cafeteria Tables
Before purchasing your new wheelchair accessible cafeteria tables, consider the following:
- Size: The size of the tables will depend on the available space. The long, rectangular tables are a great choice for a large lunchroom or cafeteria. If the space is on the smaller side, we recommend the octagonal, hexagonal, or circular-shaped tables. They take up less space while being able to seat multiple children at a time.
- Inclusion- All of our wheelchair accessible tables are designed to include all students. The open-space table has stools or benches attached to the table. They are a great option and allow a student in a wheelchair to be able to sit right next to their friends. However, this type of table only has enough space for one, possibly two wheelchairs. If your school or class has multiple students in wheelchairs, we recommend our tables that require individual chairs.
