A classroom bookshelf, also known as a bookcase, keeps classroom books organized and accessible to students. They also make a great addition to office and lobby spaces as a way to incorporate books throughout the school. At Today’s Classroom, we want to help encourage young learners to read and grow. A great way to achieve this is by having classroom bookcases filled with a variety of books available for all students to explore!
Classroom Bookshelves to Indulge Readers of Any Age
Our classroom bookcases come in different styles, including:
- Double-sided - The classic, standalone bookshelf with shelving on both sides, maximizing storage.
- Single Sided - A standalone shelf with one side of shelving. Available in welded metal, steel, wood, and laminate materials. Different shapes are available, such as rectangular toddler bookshelves and train book displays.
- Adder Units - An additional shelf that cannot stand on its own and needs to be attached to a previously placed starter unit to extend shelf space. One end is open while the other is closed. We carry both single-sided and double-sided adder units.
Our classroom bookshelves are available in different sizes, shapes, and colors to fit your style. Units have 3-5 shelves. Browse our selection and be sure to check out our add-ons, such as casters, to easily move the bookcase around the room.
How to Foster a Love of Reading in Your Classroom
Teachers can foster a love for reading in their classroom by:
- Creating a reading corner - Purchase library furniture such as a classroom bookshelf or two, soft seating, and a classroom rug to provide students with a comfortable and welcoming reading environment. Reading can be challenging and intimidating to students. By providing them with a relaxing area to read, you can take off some of that pressure.
- Having a variety of books - Books are available in different genres, just as movies are. Not every student will be interested in the same type of book. By having a classroom bookcase with an assortment of genres, you will have options that will spark every interest.
- Reading with your students - According to Edutopia, a great way to foster a child’s love of reading is by reading with them. For this reason, teachers often do classroom read-alouds, where they sit and read a book to the class. Another great way to read with students is by having individual reading time. Everyone can get a book from the classroom bookcase and sit quietly to read. Teachers then walk around the room and sit with individual students and read with them one-on-one.
A classroom bookshelf is an important addition to every classroom and school. They are the perfect way to fill your room with books that will strike students' imagination and encourage them to grow. You can never have too many books available to your students. Let us help you find the perfect bookcase for your classroom today!
