Horseshoe tables, also known as U-shaped tables, are exactly as they sound. They are a table that is essentially in a horseshoe or U shape. The purpose of these tables is to provide educators with a space to work with students one-on-one or in small groups. The unique shape of the table puts the teacher in the center of the students who are seated on the outer part of the U. This allows the teacher to have access to each student at the table at the same time. Horseshoe tables are a great tool for any educator at all age levels.

Why Have Horseshoe Tables In The Classroom

Incorporating horseshoe tables into your classroom gives you the opportunity to work on a closer level with your students. The table seats multiple students at a time while still providing them with their own space. Teachers can then easily monitor and assist a small group of students without wasting time walking around the room.

These tables are a great choice of seating for reading centers. Students can take turns going around the table reading, the design of the table making it easy to hear their classmates read. If they need help with the pronunciation of a word, the teacher is at the middle of the table, ready to help.

These are also a great seating option when working with students who are at different learning levels. It allows you to provide support to multiple students, even though they may be working on different things.

What Different Tables Do We Offer?

At Today’s Classroom, we offer the following types of horseshoe tables:

  • Original - The popular, U-shaped table with four or six legs, depending on the size.
  • Adjustable - Legs that move up and down to ensure the table height fits the students’ needs.
  • Dry Erase - A horseshoe table complete with a dry-erase table top. A great option for math class where students can solve problems right at their tables.
  • Scalloped Horseshoe - The scalloped design cuts out spaces in the table, which designate spots for the students sitting there.
  • Half Horseshoe - One side of a horseshoe table can be used in spaces where a full horseshoe table will not fit.

How To Choose The Right Table

Before purchasing a horseshoe table, consider the space in your classroom. This will help you decide what size table to get, or if a half horseshoe table is a better option for you. Next, consider the students and groups you want to use the table with. For younger students, adjustable height tables are the best option to ensure students can sit comfortably. Consider what types of subjects will be studied at the table. Will students need to solve problems or write things down? If so, a table with a dry-erase tabletop is a great choice.
