Rolling chairs, also known as caster chairs, are chairs with wheels. These chairs are often used by teachers, giving them the freedom to move their chairs around the room to work with students. They also serve as an alternative seating choice for students who struggle to sit still and focus. According to Northwest College, Iowa, studies have proven that students who are provided with alternative seating are more attentive in class. Rolling chairs can easily provide that alternate form of seating for students.

Why use rolling chairs in classrooms?

Rolling chairs have their pros and cons within the classroom. The pros of these types of chairs are that they can easily be moved around the classroom, making it easy for students and teachers to rearrange for group work or to change seats. They can also be very beneficial to students who need to be moving in order to focus on their work. Usually, rolling chairs spin, which can be just enough movement to keep students on task.

The cons of rolling chairs in the classroom are that they can be distracting. Since the chairs move and spin, the class can easily be disrupted. If students are playing around on the chairs and not using them properly, it could lead to them getting seriously hurt. Rolling chairs are better suited for older students, in middle school or higher, as younger students are more likely to play around and use the chairs incorrectly.

Styles of caster chairs we sell

At Today’s Classroom, we have a variety of caster chairs to choose from. We carry chairs for teachers, such as armchairs that provide extra comfort, or chairs that are able to change in height by lever. Both serve as good seating options for teachers who spend most of their time sitting at their desks. Some chairs have a cutout handle atop the back, making them easy to grab and move. These are good options for students who are moving around the room. We also carry some stool options, which can be used for both teachers and students, depending on what type of table they’re seated at.

How to choose the right rolling chairs

Rolling chairs are a great seating option for teachers and older students. We carry plastic, metal, and fabric chairs. Each option has its benefits when it comes to comfort. If you are going to be seated for a long period of time, a fabric chair may be your best option for comfort. Plastic and metal chairs are better suited when needing to be wiped down or cleaned thoroughly. Consider the table or desk you or your students will be sitting at before purchasing a rolling chair. You need to make sure that the height of the chair allows you to sit comfortably under the desk or table without hitting your legs. Finally, choose a style and color of chair that fits your classroom environment. If you incorporate bright colors into your classroom, consider choosing rolling chairs that match those color schemes.
